Obituary for Frances Laura Uhlman

Frances Laura  Uhlman
It is with great sadness that the family of Frances Laura Uhlman, 92, of Lunenburg, announces her peaceful passing on Thursday, May 17, 2012 at the QE11 Health Sciences Centre, Halifax.

Born in Chelsea, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Fannie (Riley) Slauenwhite.

A devoted and faithful member of Central United Church, Lunenburg, Frances served as President of the U.C.W. and of the Mary Gormly Unit of the U.C.W, served on the Board of Stewards and the Manse Committee and taught Sunday School for many years.

Active within her community she served as Brownie Leader with the local Association of Girl Guides, and for more than 60 years, belonged to the Alexander Rebekah Lodge # 22, Lunenburg, where she served as Past District Deputy President and Past Grand Noble. She received the Decoration of Chivalry, the highest award presented by the Rebekah Assembly.

She was one of the original founders and an active member of the Tuesday Afternoon Bridge Club and a member of the Senior’s Bridge Club. Frances was a faithful wife, devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother and a friend to all who knew and loved her. She will be be missed by everyone including her beloved cat, Norton.

Frances is survived by a daughter, Olivia Sheridan (David) Thompson, Ottawa; sons, Dr. Charles Clarence (Virginia) Uhlman, Mahone Bay; Harold James (Elaine) Uhlman, Rhodes Corner; sister, Freda Freeman, Greenfield; grandchildren, Jay Uhlman, Christopher Uhlman, Steven Uhlman, Jamie Uhlman, Elanya Wilkinson, Tania McNamara, Shawn Thompson, Jim Thompson, and great-grandsons, Josh Uhlman, Rhys Uhlman, Nicolas Thompson, and great grand-daughters, Olivia, Catherine, and Julia McNamara.

She was predeceased by her husband Dr. Harold Josh Uhlman, sisters, Lottie Henley, Myrtle Henley and brothers, Bernie, Clarence and Jim Slauenwhite.

Funeral Arrangements are under the direction of the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213, Hwy. # 3, Lunenburg. All are welcome to attend a public memorial service to celebrate Frances’s life will be held Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. at Central United Church, Lunenburg, Rev. Grace-Caines Corkum, officiating. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Lunenburg.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations would be appreciated to Central United Church, Lunenburg, Maple Grove Cemetery, Chelsea or S.H.A.I.D. Bridgewater
