help at the crossroads
in the summer of 1994 prof wulfman taught organic chemistry at dalhousie. he was unlike most profs in his joy in the small details of his field - such as finding a leaky pipe in a factory, and after counting the drips for a couple of minutes, discovering that the factory was losing scads of money each year from this one leak.
one day i had a dark night of the soul and went on a very very long walk to clear my head - so long that i skipped class. dragging myself in the next day, to be greeted by Prof wulfman, who had noted my absence from among oone hundred faceless students, although the class had been going for a mere two weeks.
when i later went to his office on another day, he showed me in few words that he understood the turmoil i was in; and provided me with words of wisdom that buoy my spirit to this day.
a great teacher and an unexpected friend in need. rest in peace david wulfman!
