It is with great sadness that the family of Ethel “Bernice” Knickle, 95, of Lunenburg and formerly of Blue Rocks, announces her passing on June 17, 2015 at Harbour View Haven Home for Special Care.

Born in Blue Rocks, she was a daughter of the late Glenville and Beulah (Miller) Tanner.

Bernice was a faithful member of St. Paul’s United Church, Blue Rocks, where for many years she was a choir member. She was also a member of the United Church Women, the Royal True Blue Lodge and Zion Quilters of Lunenburg.


Bernice is survived by her son, Glen (Aurora), Lower Sackville; daughter-in-law, Carolyn Knickle of Martin’s River; grandchildren, Cynthia (David) Mitchell, Garden Lots; Leah (Scott) McLean, Victoria BC; sisters, Marjorie Tanner, Bridgewater; Marilyn Greek, Halifax and four great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, Keith; son, Loren; an infant son; brothers, Ivan Tanner, Merrill Tanner and sisters, Joyce Munro and Flora Pryde.

Friends are invited to share their memories with Bernice’s family during visitation on Friday from 7-9 pm at the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213, Hwy. # 3, Lunenburg. A funeral service to celebrate Bernice’s life will be held Saturday at 2:00 pm at St. Paul’s United Church, Blue Rocks, Rev. Ruth Brown officiating. Interment will be in Upper Blue Rocks Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Paul’s United Church or to Harbour View Haven Garden Club.
