Obituary for Mary Louise Young (Westhaver)

With deep sadness, the family of Mary Louise Young, 92, of Lunenburg, formerly of Martin’s Brook, announces her passing on Friday, September 18, 2015 in Harbour View Haven Home for Special Care, Lunenburg.

Born August 19, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Sadie (Rafuse) Westhaver.

In her earlier years, Mary worked in Toronto as a housekeeper for the President of Imperial Oil. After returning to Lunenburg, she worked for Dana and Agnes Sweeny as well as several other families in the area. Mary was an avid gardener and up until recently, was found tending the gardens at Harbour View Haven.

Mary was a wonderful baker and cook, making many wedding cakes over the years.

She is survived by her brother, Vernon Westhaver, North Sydney, sister-in-law, Irene Westhaver, Lunenburg; nieces, Marguerite (Bill) Weatherbee, Cape Breton; Judy (Jerry Gibbons) Tanner, Lunenburg; nephews Joey (Deborah) and Greg (Marie) Westhaver, both of Cape Breton.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Murray, sister, Reta, brothers, Harold and Charles as well as two brothers in infancy.

Funeral Arrangements are under the direction of the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213, Hwy.# 3, Lunenburg, and from where a service to celebrate Mary’s life will be held on Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. Rev. Dr. Laurence Mawhinney officiating. Interment will be in Martin’s Brook Cemetery, Martin’s Brook.

Donations in Mary’s memory may be made to St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Lunenburg, Martin’s Brook Cemetery, or a charity of your choice.
