Obituary for Charles Maxwell "Mackie" Knickle

It is with great sadness that the family of Charles Maxwell Knickle (Mackie), 85, of Blue Rocks announces his passing on Sunday, January 3, 2016 at home.

Born in Blue Rocks on September 27, 1930, he was the son of the late George Murray and Helen Olinda (Dagley) Knickle.

Mackie is survived by his wife, Kathryn (Romkey) Knickle, Blue Rocks; sons, Jamie (Tracy) Blue Rocks; Joel (Tanya) Back Centre; grandchildren, Amber and Fayth Knickle, Blue Rocks and Jordyn and Devin Knickle, Back Centre.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Myrtle Knickle.

Mackie started working at the age of 12, lobster fishing and then worked at numerous jobs; fishing, the Fish Plant, Sealing, and 5 yrs as 3rd mate on the lake boats before taking a welding course and working 38 years at ABCO in Lunenburg, retiring in 1995.

His passions were his boat, being on the water, lobstering and his sons and grandchildren. He could always be found down to the “shore” working on the boats and traps.

Funeral Arrangements are under the direction of the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Hwy. # 3, Lunenburg, where visitation for family will be held on Wednesday from 7-9 pm. A Graveside Committal Service will be held for family and friends on Thursday at 2:00 pm at the Upper Blue Rocks Cemetery.

No flowers by family request. Donations in Mackie’s memory may be made to The Diabetes Association of Canada or the Upper Blue Rocks Cemetery, Blue Rocks.
