He was a member of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Lunenburg where he served on the Board of Managers and was a member of the Session. David was also active in the Sunday School as a teacher, pianist and Treasurer.

In his early years, he was a member of the Lunenburg Curling Club, Bluenose Badminton Club, Brittle Bones skating club, Jaycees and Kinsman club.

Music was David’s favorite pastime. He was organist at St. Matthews Lutheran Church for eight years and served as organist at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church for thirty years, directing the junior choir for two years and the senior choir for fourteen years. During the 1960’s, he was accompanist for the National Sea Products male choir, played clarinet with the Lunenburg Citizens Band until they disbanded in 1973 and was a charter member of the Sons of the Sea (Barbershop chorus) where he sang baritone and was part of a quartet. David was also a former member of the Lunenburg and District Music Committee and acted as Treasurer for a number of years. He sang with the South Shore Chorale for thirteen years. In his later years, he was an adherent of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Mahone Bay where he sang in the choir and was a member of the Wednesday Hand bell choir.

He was an avid gardener and enjoyed spending his summers working with his wife in their vegetable and flower gardens. During the winter, he enjoyed reading, playing the piano, doing jigsaw puzzles and working with crafts, especially latch hooking and painting rocks.
