Obituary for Elsie Sylvia Keizer (Smith)

Elsie Sylvia Keizer (Smith)

It is with great sadness that the family of Elsie Sylvia Keizer, 84, of Riverport, announces her passing on Wednesday, March 9, 2016 at Shoreham Village Nursing Home, Chester.

Born in Riverport, she was a daughter of the late Lemuel and Geneva (Ernst) Smith.

In her early years, Elsie worked at Riverport Seafoods and then went on to care for two children in her own home for a number of years. She was a faithful member of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Rose Bay, where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday School for many years. Active in her community, she could always be counted on to generously and cheerfully show her support wherever it was needed through her gift of time, energy and delicious baking. She will be fondly remembered for her love of animals, especially her cats and for her kind and gentle nature which she extended to all.

Elsie is survived by her daughter, Vicki Parrell, Riverport; sons, David “Casey” (Theresa), Chester Basin; Stuart, Riverport; sister, Jane Ritchie, Waterloo, ON; four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Ronald.

Funeral Arrangements are under the direction of the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Hwy # 3, Lunenburg where friends are invited to share their memories of Elsie with her family during visitation on Tuesday, from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 2:00 pm, at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Rose Bay, Rev. Dr. Laurence Mawhinney officiating. Interment will be in Shepherd’s Hill Cemetery, Riverport.

Flowers from the immediate family only. Memorial donations in Elsie’s memory may be made to SHAID Tree Animal Shelter.
