Obituary for Dr. Barbara Arlene Eisener (Hayden )

Dr. Barbara Arlene Eisener (Hayden )
The family of Barbara Arlene (Hayden) Eisener MD, age 59 of Bridgewater, announces her peaceful passing, surrounded by her family, at the South Shore Regional Hospital Bridgewater, on Tuesday April 5, 2016.

Born in Halifax, Barb was the daughter of Geraldine (Gerry) Hayden of Halifax and the late Guy Hayden.

Barb received her early education in Halifax and went on to study medicine at Dalhousie University, graduating in 1981 and moving to Lunenburg in 1984, where she worked in general practice, with a special interest in obstetrics, at the Lunenburg Medical Clinic. She was one of the founding doctors of the first GP-run Obstetrics Clinics in Nova Scotia, founded in Lunenburg and Bridgewater.

She and her family moved in 2007 to Waterdown, ON where she continued practising medicine in nearby Dundas. In the fall of 2015 she retired and, with Barry, moved back to the Lunenburg area.

Barb was the consummate professional and caring physician, who always took the time required to ensure that her patients were treated with compassion and empathy.

Barb was a dear and true friend to many. Her wisdom, quick wit, thoughtfulness, kind and caring nature was appreciated by all who were privileged to call her their friend. She was also a formidable Scrabble player! Most importantly, she was a devoted wife and partner to Barry, and mother to Sam and Jill. Barb was so very proud of both her children and all that they accomplished.

Her love of life and devotion to family, friends and community at large, were essential to her and contributed to her vitality. Barb's quiet courage, strength of spirit, creativity and sense of humour will be carried forward by all those that knew her.

We were all blessed to have known her and she has left the world a better place.

Besides her mother, Gerry of Halifax, Barb is survived by her husband, Barry, daughter, Jillian and son, Sam; brother, Brian (Joy) Hayden of Elmsdale, in-laws, Harley and Eileen Eisener, Dartmouth, as well as several sisters and brothers-in-law and nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her father, Guy.

Funeral arrangements entrusted to the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Hwy #3, Lunenburg. A Mass for Christian Burial will be held at St. John's Anglican Church, Lunenburg on Saturday April 9 at 3:00 p.m. Father Jim MacDonald, OMI, officiating with the assistance of Archdeacon Michael Mitchell. A reception will follow at the Boscawen Inn, 150 Cumberland Street, Lunenburg.
