Obituary for Mona Marie Zinck (Jodrey)

Mona Marie  Zinck (Jodrey)
It is with great sadness that the family of Mona Marie Zinck, 85, of Halifax and formerly of Lunenburg and Bridgewater announces her passing on Friday, June 24, 2016 at Maplestone Enhanced Care, Halifax.

Born in Petite Riviere, she was the daughter of the late Gaius and Garnett (Croft) Jodrey.

Mona started her teaching career in one room school houses in Lunenburg County. She taught over the years at Wileville, First South, First Peninsula, Riverport, Centre and retired in 1992 as Principal for many years at the Lunenburg Academy.

Over the years Mona was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, the Lunenburg Lion’s Club and served on the Queen of the Sea Committee. In 1993, Mona and Donald moved to Bridgewater where she was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and then Bridgewater United Church. After Donald’s passing in 2011, she moved to Halifax to be near her family.

Mona was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Mona is survived by her daughters, Sharon (Tom) Spindler, Lower Sackville; Donna (Mark) Boucher, Ottawa; grandchildren, Cole Boucher, Andrew and Caroline Spindler; sister-in-law, Florence and her husband, Ray Colp of Halifax.

She was predeceased by her husband, Donald and son, Dave.

Friends are invited to share their memories of Mona with her family during visitation on Sunday from 6 – 8 pm at the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Hwy #3, Lunenburg and from where a memorial service will be held Monday at 2:00 p.m., Rev. Robert Zinck, officiating. Interment will be at Hillcrest Cemetery, Lunenburg.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Lunenburg Academy Foundation or to a charity of your choice.
