Obituary for George Loran Allen

George Loran  Allen
It is with deep sadness that the family of George L. Allen, 82, of Halifax and formerly of Bridgewater, announces his passing on Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at the Palliative Care Unit of the QE II Health Sciences Centre, Halifax.

Born in East LaHave, he was a son of the late James and Gertrude (Conrad) Allen.

George spent his working career of thirty-five years as an administrator with the Nova Scotia department of Transport and Motor Vehicles before retiring in 1989 as Director of Highway Safety and Field Program Director. In his earlier years he served with the Merchant Navy during the Korean War and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch # 24, Bridgewater and past member of Legion Branch #162, Fairview.

He served on the Board of Directors of Creek Hill Cemetery for many years.

George is survived by his sons, Christopher (Connie Dea), Bridgewater; Stephen, LaHave; grandson, James; sister-in-law, Irene Allen of Riverport; as well as Cindy Roy, Ottawa; Jacklin (Derrick) Dooks, Greenwood and Wendy (John) Fink, Ottawa, who were special people in his life.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother Ronald Allen.

Funeral Arrangements are under the direction of the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213, Hwy. # 3, Lunenburg and from where a memorial service will be held Saturday, February 18, 2017 at 2:00 pm, Rev. Paul Jensen officiating. Interment will be at a later date in Creek Hill Cemetery, East LaHave.

Memorial donations made to the Canadian Cancer Society, would be appreciated by the family.

The family would like to thank all George’s friends who supported him during his illness. A special thank you to all the staff members at the Q.E. II Palliative Care Unit.
