Barbara  Gladys  Lohnes
It is with deep sadness that the family of Barbara Gladys Lohnes, 93, of Harbour View Haven Home For Special Care, Lunenburg and formerly of Garden Lots, announces her passing on Sunday, February 25, 2018, at South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater.

Born in Lunenburg, she was a daughter of the late Harry and Elizabeth (Whynacht) Murphy.

Barbara was employed for 27 years with National Sea Products, Lunenburg, where she worked 17 years in production and the last 10 years in the First Aid Department. She lived for almost 20 years at Battery Point where she raised her family and had many fond memories of skating on Lohnes’ Pond in the winter and making hay and swimming at Lohnes’ Beach every day in the summer. She loved to walk and especially enjoyed camping at Molega Lake and Shoreboat View Campground in Bayport. Active in her community, Barbara was a member of the Lunenburg Bowling League, was past president and member of the Ladies’ Auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #23, Lunenburg and volunteered at Harbour View Haven Home for Special Care for many years. She was a lifelong member of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Lunenburg where she faithfully supported all their programs and events.

Barbara is survived by her daughter, Karen Wardell, First South; son, Tommy (Linda) Lohnes, Garden Lots; grandchildren, Matthew (Crystal), Patrick, John (Tina) Jody (Stacie); great-grandchildren, Colton, Leah, Mathew, Elizabeth, Landon; sisters, Isabelle Winslow, ON; Joan (Sherman) Conrad, Bayport; Ann (John) Perry, Bayport; Cathryn Harpell, Lunenburg; brother, Harrison (Dorothy) Murphy, Dartmouth and many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband John Maxwell Lohnes; sister, Florence Fry and son-in-law, Dennis Wardell.

Funeral arrangements entrusted to the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213, Hwy #3, Lunenburg. A memorial service celebrating Barbara’s life will be held at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Lunenburg on Thursday at 2:00 pm, Rev. Sukho Lee officiating. Interment will be in Garden Lots Cemetery, Garden Lots.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Garden Lots Cemetery, St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, or the Garden Fund at Harbour View Haven Home for Special Care, Lunenburg.
