Obituary for Rosaline Elizabeth "Rosie " Lowry

It is with great sadness that the family of Rosaline “Rosie” Elizabeth Lowry, 91, of First South, announces her passing on Sunday, June 10, 2018 at Harbour View Haven Home For Special Care, Lunenburg.

Born in First South, she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Laura (Colp) Jennings.

In her earlier years, Rosie taught school on Corkum’s Island and worked with Dr. Hewitt in his Lunenburg office.

Rosie had many talents and interests and rarely had “spare” time. Many pairs of hand-knit socks and dozens of Christmas cakes were given as presents each year. She was also an accomplished rug hooker.

Rosie was a member of Central United Church, Lunenburg, where in her earlier years she belonged to the UCW, the senior choir and was a CGIT Leader. She was instrumental in the restoration of the First South Cemetery and remained active on the cemetery committee for many years.

Rosie is survived by sons, John (Susan), Truro; David, East LaHave; Peter, First South; grandson, Jordan; brother-in-law, Carl Atkins, Dartmouth; several nieces and nephews.

She was pre-deceased by her husband, James, brother, Samuel; sisters, Frances Penney, Lavaughn Atkins and Joyce Clark, brothers-in-law, Fred Penney and George Clark and niece, Linda.

Friends are invited to share their memories of Rosie with her family during visitation on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Hwy #3, Lunenburg, and where a funeral service to celebrate her life will be held on Thursday at 2:00 p.m. Rev. Grace Caines- Corkum, officiating. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Lunenburg.

A special thanks to Lauralene, Thelma and all the staff at Harbour View Haven Home for Special Care, Lunenburg.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Central United Church, the Poppy Fund of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #23, Lunenburg Fire Department or any other charity.
