LANTZ, Earl Claude – It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Earl Claude Lantz, age 78, of Crouse’s Settlement, Lun. Co., on Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at home.

Born in Halifax, NS he was an adopted son of Claude Lantz and the son of Thelma (Wamboldt) Lantz. Earl’s passion was his family and he dedicated his life to the youth of Halifax, Lunenburg and Queen’s Counties through the Air Cadet Program.

Earl attended St. Mary’s University as a part time student graduating with a Bachelor of Commerce with a Major in Business Administration and equivalent to a Major in Accounting. He went on to graduate with his Masters of Arts [in Education]. Earl worked for the Provincial Government in the NS Hospital Insurance Commission but mostly with the Department of Education, Administrative Assistant to the Director of Vocational Education. He was promoted to the position of Co-ordinator Planning and Budgeting ending a 36 year career as Regional Inspector of Schools for Lunenburg, Queens and Shelburne Counties.

Earl joined the Air Cadet Program at the age of 13 years. Earl moved up through the ranks to attain his WOI. He continued with the program and held many positions until he became Commanding Officer of 529 and lastly 865 Air Cadet Squadrons. Following his retirement as Commanding Officer he joined the Nova Scotia Provincial Committee, Air Cadet League of Canada. He held the positions as Secretary, Vice Chairman, Chairman and National Director Air Cadet League of Canada. At the time of his death, Earl was League Director of 545 Privateer Squadron in Liverpool.

In his retirement years he was a Life member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Br. #24, Bridgewater Curling Club, Bluenose Golf Club and for several years Osprey Golf Club as well. He was a Commissioner with the Dayspring & District Fire Department for 13 years, President of Senior Wheels Association for 9 years, Treasurer of the Dayspring & District Golden Youth Club for 12 years. Earl volunteered his time as Chairman of the Board of the former Valley Funeral Home & Cremation Co-operative Ltd and was a Past President of the former Kiwanis Club of Bluenose Golden K.

Earl will be dearly missed by his wife of 56 years, Melba (Crouse), daughter Sheri (John) Collyer, son Daron (Karen) Lantz, brother Stephen Lantz (Betty Kiteley). Also by grandchildren Kyrsten Collyer, [Brittany] and Stephanie Lantz, Patrick and Dylan Rhyno as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by parents Claude and Thelma Lantz.

A celebration of life will be held at the Bridgewater Royal Canadian Legion, Br. # 24, 78 Churchill St., Bridgewater, NS. (B4V 1R7) on Sunday, July 22, 2018 at 2:00 p.m.

Donations in Earl’s memory may be made to Senior Wheels Association, 100 High St., Box 151, Bridgewater, NS B4V 1V9 or the Poppy Fund at the Royal Canadian Legion, Br. #24, at the above address or a charity of your choice. Words of comfort may be sent to Melba Lantz & Family, P. O. Box 453, Bridgewater, NS B4V 2X6. Interment will follow at theMiddle LaHave Cemetery, Middle LaHave.

The family of the Late Earl Lantz sends heartfelt thanks to all who cared enough to bring food, offered assistance, visited and telephoned/e-mailed to get updates during Earl’s illness. Words cannot express how much we appreciated the kind gestures. Special thanks to Dr. W. Hasegawa, Hematologist, Dr. N. Sparavolo and all the nurses and Pharmacists in the Chemotherapy Treatment Rooms V.G. Hospital. To the Palliative Care Team – V.O.N. nurses, Palliative Care nurse Noeleen Reily and Dr. Gowan, Dr. Lennox for your professional and compassionate care. Angels All!
