Obituary for Juliette "Julie" Corinne Hackett (Godin)

Print
With gratitude for a life well lived, it is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Julie Hackett of Fall River at the age of 72.

Born in Maisonnette, N.B., she was the daughter of the late Normand Godin and Anna (Gauvin) Godin.

After graduating from high school in Caraquet, N.B., she held various secretarial positions in Fredericton, N.B., for St. Thomas University, for the New Brunswick Teacher's Association, and the Department of Fisheries. After the birth of her children, she became a homemaker for several years, and then decided to go back to school (N.S.I.T.) in order to return to the work force. In 1987, she graduated with honours from a Dental Assistant program, and then worked for the same dentist for the next 23 years, never missing a day of work. After retiring in 2008, she made her retirement home with her husband, and her cat Jack.

She and her husband enjoyed to travel and spent many vacations in Florida and South Carolina, as well visiting family in Ontario, Quebec and New Brunswick. Julie also made several trips to Europe with her sister-in-law, Bev. She had a passion for fitness and jogging, spending two or more hours a day at the local gym, and even triumphantly completing a half marathon at the age of 66. After retirement, she continued to serve the community as a volunteer at the Cobequid Community Health Centre as well as at St. Rose of Lima Parish in Fall River. Further, she was heavily involved in charities, notably Diabetes Canada and the QEII Health Sciences Centre Foundation.

Besides her parents, Julie was predeceased by brothers, Gilbert and Eudor; and sisters, Lorenza and Rita.

She will be remembered lovingly by her husband, Jerry Hackett; her son, Jason (Tracy Ward); her daughter, Josette (Mark Veitch); her grandchildren, Maeve, Grace and Sawyer; her brothers, Roger and Armand (Janine); her sisters, Aurore (Glen Knickle), Lucia (LĂ©once Naud) and Bella (John Millan), as well as many nieces and nephews.

It was Julie's wish to donate her body to science. A graveside interment ceremony will take place in Hillcrest Cemetery in Lunenburg at a later date. A Celebration of Life will take place on Tuesday, October 23rd at 2 p.m. at the Hackett residence (79 Taylor Drive, Windsor Junction) for immediate family and close friends.

For those who wish, memorial donations can be made to the Diabetes Canada or the QEII Health Sciences Centre Foundation, or a charity of your choice.

A special thank you to the staff of the Cobequid Community Health Centre as well as the QEII Health Sciences Centre for their care and compassion during Julie's brief hospital stay. Arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny's Funeral Home in Lunenburg, where online condolences may be made by visiting: www.sweenyfuneralhome.ca
