Obituary for Owen Charles Conrad

Print
It is with great sadness that the family of Owen Charles Conrad, 85 of Rhodes Corner announce his passing on Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at Shoreham Village Nursing Home, Chester.

Born in West LaHave, Owen was the son of the late Firman and Effie (Dauphinee) Conrad.

Owen started his seagoing career at an early age working on the Okay Service boats out of LaHave and then went with Imperial Oil for 15 years on several different tankers, deep sea and the lakes in Upper Canada. He returned back home to work for 34 years with ABCO Industries, Lunenburg, retiring in 1993. In retirement years, Owen kept busy at home looking after the house and property in a “ship shape” fashion. He was a member of the Anglican Church and many will remember him for his love of animals, especially his cat, Koko and lending his car for the movie, Dolores Claiborne. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him.

Owen is survived by daughters, Catherine (Brian) Dares, Bayport; Sharon Conrad, Bridgewater and Janet (Kevin) Lantz, Blockhouse; son, Howard (Dale) Conrad, Dayspring; grandchildren, Adam (Krista), Jeffrey (Candice), Derek (Christie), Bradley (Chantal), Christopher (Mary Beth) and 6 great-grandchildren.

The last of his immediate family, Owen was predeceased by his wife, Goldie in June 14, 2015, and brothers Clyde, (Oct. 19, 2018) and Russell in infancy.

Friends are invited to share their memories of Owen with his family on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Hwy. # 3, Lunenburg and where a service to celebrate Owen’s life will be held on Thursday at 2:00 p.m. with the, The Very Rev. John Wright, officiating, assisted by Rev. Paul Jensen. Interment will be in the Dayspring Cemetery.
