Obituary for Geraldine Evelyn Barkhouse

It is with great sadness that the family of Geraldine Evelyn Barkhouse, 99, of First South, announces her passing on Thursday, December 20, 2018 at the Mahone Nursing Home, Mahone Bay.

Born in Camperdown, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Sarty) Wamboldt.

In her earlier years Geraldine worked at the Nova Scotia Sanitorium and at Scotian Gold in the Valley and then enjoyed sewing for family and friends. She was a faithful member of Faith Baptist Chapel where she supported the work of the church and over the years she was a former member of the True Blue Lodge and a leader with Girl Guides and Explorers. Geraldine was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She loved the simple pleasures of life and her family and home were so important in her life. Many will remember her love of baking and spending time knitting and crocheting. She was a golden thread of love spun invisibly through our hearts and lives.

Geraldine is survived by her son, Laverne (Pat), Back Centre; granddaughters, Tammy (Pat) Skinner, Karen Barkhouse, great- grandchildren, Courtney Skinner and Haleigh (Jon) Enserink and close friend Clarence Schwartz.

She was predeceased by her husband, Harry, great granddaughter, Morgan Elizabeth; brothers, Horace, Claude, Arnold, George and Samuel

Funeral Arrangements are under the direction of the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Hwy # 3, Lunenburg. Funeral Service to celebrate Geraldine’s life will be held Saturday at 3:00 p.m. at Faith Baptist Chapel, Centre, Rev. Steven Hiltz, officiating. Interment will be in First South Cemetery, First South.
