Obituary for Lucille Dorothy Mosher (Ernst)
Lucille Dorothy (Ernst) Mosher, 1934 – 2018
Lucille passed away on Dec 21st with family at her side, after a long and graceful journey through Alzheimer’s Disease.
She was the 8th of 10 children born to Winnie (Langille) and Arthur Ernst. She grew up on the family farm in First Peninsula, and lived most of her life in or near Lunenburg.
She is survived by sister Ivy Ramey and brother Winston (Betty Jean), sons Michael (Patricia), Jeffrey (Diane) and Elliot (Joanne), daughters Laurie (Russell) Veinotte and Mary Ann (Steadman) Frank, grandchildren Rhiannon,Winston, Meris, Jaclyn, Jason, Alyssa, Evan and Katherine, and by great-grandchildren Abigale, Grace, and Reid.
She was predeceased by sisters Mary Veinot, Eloise Karlsen, Doris Ernst, and brothers Alton, Cyril, Herbert, and John.
After graduating from the Lunenburg Academy in 1951, Lucille followed in the footsteps of her sister Mary by attending Normal College in Truro, and then began her teaching career in Fox Point, Nova Scotia. She married Aubrey Joseph Mosher in 1954 and stepped away from teaching to raise her family. In the mid-1960s she returned to teaching first as a substitute, and then in a permanent position as an English Teacher at the new Lunenburg Junior-Senior High School. She upgraded her professional credentials over several summers at Acadia University, lending to memorable family stays at Evangeline Beach. Over her 25-year career, she taught at all levels of the new school, winning an award for Innovation with the introduction of student-re-enacted “docudramas” depicting major historical events in the form of Super-8 movies. In the final years, in recognition of her worsening hearing impairment, she worked with individual students as a Remedial Teacher at the Lunenburg Academy.
In the early years of her retirement, she travelled with friends through the Rocky Mountains and across the UK. Having been divorced in the late 1970s, she struck up a close relationship with the late Gordon Mader of Clearland, travelling the back roads of Nova Scotia for a number of years. After his death she settled into her home in Northwest with her beloved Boston Terriers Pal, Missy and Benny.
Lucille was a life-long faithful member of St. John’s Anglican Church in Lunenburg, and her true passion was the health and happiness of her children and of friends and family. She filled her latter days with helping her neighbors and visiting institutionalized family members, until it was time finally for others to look after her. She lived at Lohnes Rest Home in Barss Corner for two years, and then moved to Harbour View Haven when more extensive care was required. Throughout these years of declining health, she maintained her delightfully happy disposition and always had a big smile for staff, residents and visitors. She will be dearly missed by her family, and remembered by all who knew her as a kind, generous and loving person.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Hwy #3, Lunenburg. Funeral Service to celebrate Lucille’s life will be held, 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at St. John’s Anglican Church, Lunenburg.
