Freda Grace Vardon (Pocock)
Freda Grace Vardon, 97, of Lunenburg, passed away Thursday, December 31, 2009 at the Veteran’s Unit of Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg.
Born in London, England, she was a daughter of the late Sydney Herbert and Edith (George) Pocock.
During World War II, Freda served in the British Air Force, developing Aerial Photography. After the War she worked for an accounting firm in Montreal.
Freda was a member of Central United Church, Lunenburg, where she belonged to the Gormley Unit of the U.C.W., and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 23, Lunenburg. She was a lady who travelled the world, loved adventure and will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Freda is survived by a daughter, Joan (Leslie) Halsey, Dartmouth; sisters, Jean Stetson, Mass.; Audrey Williams, England; grandchildren, Linda Halsey, Gary Halsey, Deborah Van Horne and great-grandchildren, Jason, Benjamin, Emily, Malcolm and Julian.
She was predeceased by her husband, Claude, twin brother, Allan and a sister, Margaret.
Funeral Arrangements are under the direction of the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213, Hwy. # 3, Lunenburg. A memorial service to celebrate Freda’s life will be held Monday at 2:00 p.m. at Central United Church, Lunenburg. Rev. Grace Caines-Corkum officiating. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Lunenburg.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Veteran’s Unit of Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital or to Central United Church.
