It is with great sadness that the family of Gerard Murphy, 77, Mader’s Cove, announce his passing on Tuesday, April 2, 2019, at South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater.
Born in St. Joseph’s, NL, he was a son of the late Patrick and Elizabeth (Wells) Murphy.
Gerard worked for over thirty years in his scrap metal business in Mader’s Cove. In his younger years he enjoyed spending time outdoors, hunting and fishing. In more recent years, he loved to spend much of his time with his grandson, Jamie and great-grandson Decklyn, both of whom he was very proud. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Bridgewater.
Gerard is survived by his grandson, Jamie, Mahone Bay; great-grandson, Decklyn; sons, Patrick and step-son, Ken both of Bridgewater.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wives, Cecelia, Daisy, Barbara Veinot, and Joyce; son, William (Billy); sisters, Blanche, Elizabeth Picco; brothers, Bill, Leo and Fred.
Funeral Arrangements are under the direction of the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Hwy. # 3, Lunenburg and from where visitation will be held on Sunday, April 7, 2019 from 7-9 p.m. A Mass for Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, April 8, 2019 from St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Bridgewater, Deacon Patrick Morris, officiating. Interment to follow at Martin’s Brook Cemetery, Martin’s Brook.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Bridgewater would be appreciated by the family.
