Obituary for Shirley Agnes Rhodenizer

Rhodenizer, Shirley Agnes, 88, of Harbour View Haven, Home for Special Care formerly of Dean’s Corner, passed away on Wednesday July 10, 2019 at Harbour View Haven.

Born on Tancook Island, on December 5, 1930, she was a daughter of the late Ena (Baker) and Lawrence Wilson.

Shirley spent the majority of her professional life working for R.B. Stevens and Sons Sailmakers and later at The Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic.

Shirley was a faithful member of the Northwest United Baptist Church and was actively involved in the choir for more than 40 years.

After retirement, Shirley enjoyed gardening, playing cards and doing jigsaw puzzles. Her grandchildren will always remember picnics on the lawn, skating at the rink, making gingerbread houses and sparkly pine cones for the fireplace. And, oh the food, pancakes on Sunday morning, pizza for lunch and chocolate pie from scratch for birthday celebrations.

Shirley is survived by her children, Debbie (Dartmouth), Wendy (Bridgewater), Kevin (Heather) (Martin’s Brook), grandchildren, Darrell (Joanna), Ken (Holly), Melissa (Matt), Jeff (Amy), Elizabeth, great grandchildren, Jacob, Ella, Jack, Chelsea, Alexa, Kara, Emma, Anna, Zoey and Everlee.

She was predeceased by her husband, Douglas, brothers, Ivan and Harley and sisters, Millie and Velma.

A service of celebration and memory of Shirley will be held Monday at 1:00 p.m. in the Northwest United Baptist Church, Reverend Doctor Randy Crozsman, officiating.

Arrangements entrusted to the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Hwy #3 Lunenburg.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Northwest United Baptist Church, Harbour View Haven or the Second Peninsula Cemetery.

The family would like to thank the staff of Harbour View Haven for their care of our mother over the past five years. Thanks also to Sweeny’s Funeral Home for their care of our mother.
