Obituary for John Henry Brazier

John Henry Brazier, 74, of Lunenburg, formerly of Upper Cornwall, passed Wednesday, November 20, 2019, at Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg after a battle with lung cancer.

John was born on November 11th, 1945 in Markham, Ontario to John and Edith (Hardy) Brazier.

He is survived by daughter, Heidi Brazier Tremblay (Karl) of Halifax, N.S.; son, Jeremy Brazier (Kara) of Forestburg, Alberta; grandchildren, Jacob (Emma), Nathaniel, Leah and Madison; sisters, Joan Wesley, Maryann Brazier Lawrence and Nancy MacPhaden (Brian) all residing in Ontario.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers-in-law, Bill Wesley and Phil Lawrence and great grandsons, Jeremy and Jacob Jr in infancy.

John was raised in his family with three sisters and several foster children over the years. When he was 7 years old, he was in a very serious accident and nearly lost his life. He was riding his bicycle when he was run over by a dump truck leaving him in a coma for several months and with lifelong injuries. He joined the navy and traveled the world before moving to rural Nova Scotia in 1970 and buying his farm in Upper Cornwall where he remained until recently. John worked as a cook or baker for most of his career after leaving the navy at places like restaurants, fishing boats, oil rigs and more. Boy, could he cook an amazing meal! He tended his farm raising small livestock and poultry, beekeeping, farming the land and otherwise enjoying his rural acreage. He was a strong member of the organic farming movement before it became a thing and was well known for his love of the farm.

Memorial service will be held on Monday at 11:00 a.m. at the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Hwy.#3, Lunenburg. Pastor Fred Carr officiating. Cremation has taken place and a private family committal will be held at a later date.

Family flowers only please. Donations in John’s memory may be made to a charity of your choice.
