Obituary for Douglas Stedman Steven Bezanson

It is with great sadness that the family of Douglas Stedman Steven Bezanson, 94, of Lunenburg, announces his passing on Thursday, December 19, 2019, at the Veteran’s Unit of Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg.

Born in Garden Lots on October 10, 1925, he was the son of the late Guilford and Grace (Langille) Bezanson and spent his younger years in First South.

He served in the Second World War at a very young age, and was a guard of German prisoners in Germany.

Doug worked most of his life at Lunenburg Foundry and Engineering, living nearby in Lunenburg with his wife and 3 daughters.

In his spare time, he was an avid salmon fisherman on the Lahave River and also loved hunting. He also had the hobby of tying salmon and trout flies for many men in Lunenburg County.

Doug was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Doug is survived by daughters, Valerie (Bryan) Alinard, Bridgewater, Tonia (Gary) Walters, Lower Branch, Lori (Daryl) Joudrey, Bridgewater; Grandsons, Adam (Alexandria), Justin (Kimberley), Shawn (Shelly), Jonathan (Nicole); Great-grandchildren, Jesse and Hannah, Noah, Harrison, Rhys and Liam.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Joan, sisters, Frances Byers, Charlotte Campbell and a brother R. Borden.

Funeral arrangements entrusted to the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Hwy # 3, Lunenburg. A family graveside service will be held at a later date from Hillcrest Cemetery, Lunenburg.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital or Huntington’s’ Society of Canada would be appreciated by the family.
