Obituary for Michael Frank Walters
It is with great sadness that the family of Michael Frank Walters, 69, of Branch LaHave announce his passing on Wednesday, February 12, 2020 at the QE II Health Sciences Centre, Halifax surrounded by his family.
Born in Lunenburg, he was the son of the late Frank and Grace (McCarthy) Walters.
Michael started his working career at Riverport Seafoods and then went scallop fishing for a number of years. Due to the declining fishing industry he took a cooking course at NSCC in Bridgewater and worked at Island View Canteen and then started making Bagels and Bread from his home which led into a very busy bakery business, The Dutchmen's Country Bake Shop with his daughter, Amanda, for over 15 years.
Michael’s family will remember him for his never ending love of his family, especially times spent with his grandchildren, a shoulder to always lean on and they will miss his many phone calls, always just checking up on his children. He will be truly missed by all those who knew and loved him.
Michael is survived by his wife, Linda; daughters, Kim Walters (Michael Lacey) West Northfield; Amanda Walters-Penney (David Penney), Wileville, Vicky Walters (William Holdbrook) West Northfield; Son, Patrick Walters, Kitchener, Ontario; grandchildren, Michelle, Madison, Gabriel, Connor, Kaitlyn, Maria, Logan, Rowan, Trenton, Serenity, Nevaeh and Dominic; brothers, Gary (Tonia) Branch LaHave; Andrew (Mona), East LaHave; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents.
Funeral Arrangements are under the direction of the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Hwy. # 3, Lunenburg with visitation on Friday, February 14 from 7 to 9 p.m. and where a memorial service to celebrate Michael’s life will be held Saturday, February 15 at 2:00 p.m. Rev. Rick Pryce, officiating.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to SHAID Tree Animal Shelter, South Shore Regional Hospital Ceiling Lift Campaign, QE II Health Services Foundation or to a charity of your choice.
