Obituary for Allan Laidlaw McNeill

ALLAN LAIDLAW MCNEILL

Age 73, Allan succumbed to aggressive esophageal cancer on May 20th in the South Shore Regional Hospital. He was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, June 23rd. 1946. Allan emigrated from Scotland to Bedford, N.S. with his family in 1958. He attended Sydney Stephen High School, from which he still had many close friends (Pat Dunphy and the late John Meagher, among others).

In 1969 Allan went to work with Murray Bulger & Associates, which evolved into Benefit Plan Administrators Limited, within which he was President of the Atlantic Canada Division. Allan, apart from his Atlantic Canadian responsibilities, was Atlantic Chairman of the Canadian Pension Conference for two terms, followed by two years on the Canadian Board. He also served on an American Committee and a number of Canadian Committees, including a two year term on the Canadian Board of the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans, Inc. (Wisconsin, U.S.A.). Allan was a successful administrator and greatly appreciated the staff members who supported him throughout his career and he wished to express his thanks to them, especially Karen Assef. Allan was instrumental in encouraging many members of the Atlantic Building Trades to include both Life and Health Benefits in their Collective Bargaining Agreements, which ultimately led to Pension Plans for which he felt very proud.

To all his friends in Chester Legion Branch 44, the Focsle Tavern and the Chester Golf Club he sends his best wishes as he found Chester to be a loving community. He also expressed his thanks to Chester Baptist Church for the spiritual guidance of Rev. Dr. Dan Green and Pastor Sheila Ago. Allan will be fondly remembered by his Family and many friends for his unconditional love, care, loyalty and generosity.
