Obituary for Lucy Elva Niford (Mosher)

It is with great sadness that the family of Lucy Elva Niford, 97 of Lunenburg and formerly of Riverport, announces her passing on Saturday, May 30, 2020 at Harbour View Haven Home for Special Care, Lunenburg.

Born in Riverport, she was the daughter of the late Harold and Helen (Crouse) Mosher.

Lucy was a proud lifelong homemaker and found great pleasure in looking after her home and family. She was a devoted member of Trinity United Church in Rose Bay, as well as a member of the Riverview Rebekah Lodge #22, Riverport, Treasurer of the local Red Cross for forty-five years and was an active volunteer for the Arthritis Society of Nova Scotia. In her spare time she found joy in sewing and knitting various items that are treasured keepsakes for her family. Lucy was also an avid poet and had a book written with may of her works, based on her life and that of her family and friends. Reciting to these same people was a gift she loved to do. Having one of her works published in Readers Digest was a proud personal accomplishment.

Lucy is survived by her daughters; Marilyn Mitchell, Lunenburg, Glenda (Howie MacLean) Niford, Tantallon; son, Robert, East LaHave; sister, Dawn Clifford, New York; grandchildren, Angela (Paul), Wanda (Mike), Joey (Cindy), Veronica, Eric (Samantha), Dana, Jacob, Jayme (Sarah); great-grandchildren, Cheyenne (Logan), Dylan (Brie), Josh and Landan.

Besides her parents, Lucy was predeceased by her husband, Wilson; son-in-law, Harrison Mitchell; sisters, Verna Lohnes, Gwen Nauss; brothers, Albert, Donald, Douglas; step-sister, Frances Hebb; step-brother-in-law, Mervin Hebb; step-mother, Phoebe Mosher,

Funeral Arrangements are under the direction of the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Hwy. # 3, Lunenburg. A memorial service for Lucy will be held on Saturday, August 22, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. at Trinity United Church, Rose Bay, Rev. Heather Ferrier, officiating. Due to COVID precautions those in attendance are required to wear a mask.

Interment will follow at Shepherd’s Hill Cemetery, Riverport.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Trinity United Church, Rosebay or a charity of your choice.
