Obituary for Shirley Rita Ritcey

It is with great sadness that the family of Shirley Rita Ritcey, 78, of Bridgewater and formerly of Riverport announces her passing on Saturday, July 25, 2020 at the Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg.

Born in Harbour Breton, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Charlotte (Skinner) Skinner.

Shirley started her working career as a Nurses Aid at Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital and then went to work at Riverport Seafoods Ltd and later for a number of years at the Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic and Lunenburg County Home Support.

Active within her communities, Shirley was a member of Bridgewater United Church where she supported the work of the church and in earlier years, she was a member of Trinity United Church, Rose Bay where she taught Sunday School and volunteered for many activities within the church.

She loved her family dearly and over the years devoted her life to her son, Greg and drove countless hours so he could participate in the activities that Greg was so involved in.

She was a golden thread of love spun invisibly through all our hearts and lives.

Shirley is survived by her sisters, Barbara (Grant) Nodding, Rose Bay; Audrey Chapman, First South; Charlotte (Lloyd) Farmer, Bridgewater; brothers, Allan (Doreen) Skinner, Riverport and Freddie (Stella) Skinner, Lake Echo; sister-in-law, Sandra Skinner, Bridgewater and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Willis; son, Gregory; brother, Wallace Skinner and brother-in-law, William Chapman.

Funeral Arrangements are under the direction of the Dana L.
