Obituary for Karl Worrell Greek

It is with sorrow that we announce the death of our husband, father, and grandfather, Karl Worrell Greek (83) of Shoreham Village, Chester and Bridgewater, NS on December 22, 2020 after a lengthy struggle with Alzheimer’s.

Karl was born and first lived in Stonehurst, and later in Garden Lots, Lunenburg County. He was the only child of the late Worrell and Luetta (Whynacht) Greek.

He attended school in Stonehurst and was a member of the first Grade12 class at Centre Consolidated. After high school he took various courses at DAL and TUNS through his work at NSP. He worked for almost 40 years with Highliner Foods of Lunenburg, first in the Production Control Office working his way up to Office Manager and later as an Industrial Engineering Technician, retiring in 1999.

After the death of his father, he was a devoted son to his widowed mother, enriching her life with daily visits and phone calls. He also enjoyed puttering around his home and could turn his hand to almost any task. His analytical mind was always in motion, often giving unsolicited advice as to how a task should be done. Sometimes his sage advice was well received – other times not so much! A gifted mathematician, he would often have the answer before others had the chance to get out their calculators. He was very proud of the educational accomplishments of his three children, all university graduates – a teacher, nurse and an engineer. He took great delight in watching his grandchildren grow and develop their own unique personalities. In 2014 he helped his wife in her efforts to raise funds to erect a Greek Family Headstone in the Lower Blue Rocks Cemetery to honour the founders of the Greek Family in Nova Scotia.

Left to cherish his memory are his best friend and wife, Ingrid (Menssen), Bridgewater; son Joel (Joanne) Greek, Mount Pearl, NL; daughters Heidi Greek and Karla (Tim Burley) Greek, Hammond’s Plains; grandchildren Andrew and Karen Greek, Olivia, April, and Rebecca Hilchie, and Cooper and twins Jocelyn, Brooklyn and Tristan Burley.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dana L Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Hwy #3, Lunenburg. A private graveside service will be held at Hillcrest Cemetery, Lunenburg at 1pm on Tuesday, December 29, 2020.

Memorial donations, if desired, can be made to Bridgewater United Church, Lower Blue Rocks Cemetery or a charity of the donor’s choice.
