Obituary for Mary Christena Conrad

It is with great sadness that the family of Mary Christena Conrad, 83, of Debert, and formerly of First South, announce her passing on Thursday, January 7, 2021 at Debert Court Shannex.

Born in New Glasgow, NS, she was a daughter of the late Clifford and Georgina (Delorey) Pettipas.

After finishing high school early, Mary went on to the Nova Scotia Technical School in Halifax to study administration. Upon graduating, she was employed by the Department of Highways in Halifax for a number of years, before marrying her husband Gilbert and re-locating to Lunenburg, NS. It was there that she raised her two daughters and finished her career at Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital in Food and Nutrition Services. After the passing of her husband, Mary moved to Truro, NS to be closer to her family.

Mary was an active and faithful member of the Catholic Church her entire life. Even when her mobility was failing, she loved her Sunday pick ups to get to Mass.

She was a lover of Bingo and also really enjoyed getting together with her closest friends, for a good game of cards, food and fun.

A loving mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother, who loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. Her sarcastic sense of humour brought many laughs to those around her and will always be remembered.

She is survived by her daughters, Krista (Trevor) Conrad Whynot, Debert, Wendy (Brad) Stewart, Timberlea; grandchildren, Mateya, Courtney, Sophia, Zack, Zachary; great-grandchildren, Ava, Lincoln and Jacob; sisters, Rita, Theresa, Margaret, Anne, Veronica and Betty; brothers, Walter, Donnie and Bob.

Besides her parents, Mary was predeceased by her husband Gilbert and brothers, Leonard, Bernard, Francis and Raymond.

Funeral arrangements entrusted to the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Hwy #3, Lunenburg. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, January 16, 2021 from St. Norbert’s Roman Catholic Church, Lunenburg. Father Jim O’Connor officiating. Interment to follow in Sunny Valley Cemetery, Centre.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Residential Council of Debert Court Shannex would be appreciated by the family.

The family would like to say a special thank you to the wonderful caregivers at Debert Court Shannex, especially Susan (RN).
