Obituary for Marian Chappelle Hughes

The family of Marian Chappelle (Doherty) Hughes announce the peaceful passing of our Mother on January 19, 2021 at the home of her son in Mader’s Cove NS. Although not a victim of the covid virus, she was unable to return to her home in Saint John after what was to have been a brief winter visit.

Our Mother was born in Saint John on November 18, 1918, the eldest child of Hannah Chappelle (Chappy) Enslow and Francis Leo (Frank) Doherty. She was the wife of the late John Patrick Hughes of Fredericton and it was here that she raised their 5 children.

She is survived by Nonie Hayes (Paul), Anne Hughes Bourassa (Gene), John P. (Joanne) and Mary Davis (Renaud Bordage) and daughter-in-law, Rita LeBlanc Hughes.

She was predeceased by her husband and her son Peter J. Hughes, and son-in-law, William Davis.

Mom was a medical transcriptionist at DECRH in Fredericton where she loved her job and took great pride in her work. After retirement she became an avid reader and enjoyed going to the movies. Mom was never a great cook!

She was also predeceased by her siblings: Frances Barry, Louise Lewis, Frank, Therese Doherty, Cecily Cormier, Martin and an adopted brother Michael.

She was a beloved grandmother of Matthew Hayes, (Kristi), Nicholas Hayes (Genevieve), Joseph Hayes (Agnieszka), Michael Hayes (Lindsay), Jennifer Hughes Tucker (Adam), Sarah Hughes Kenny (Nathan), Stephanie Hughes, Natasha Hughes, Naomi Hughes, Katie McVivar (Jonathon), William Davis, James Davis, Peter Davis and Thomas Davis and step-grand-daughters, Jayna (Brad Clark) and Leeann (Kevin Royle).

Also much loved were her great grandchildren: Aida, Reta and Noah Kenny; Mackenzie, Fletcher, Veronica and Hudson Hayes; Logan and Maeve Tucker; John McVicar and step-great grandchildren, Matt and Jayme Clark; Maverick and Renly Royle.

In lieu of flowers donations to the Peter J Hughes Sustainable Forestry Scholarship at Fredericton UNB, the VON Lunenburg County NS or to a charity of your choice.

Special thanks go out to Nurse Practioner, Lorri Giffin.

The family also wish to give a most sincere thank you to Joanne and John for their dedicated end of life care given to our Mother.
