Obituary for Mary Joyce Victoria Allen

It is with great sadness that the family of Mary Joyce Victoria Allen, 93, of Ridgewood Retirement Home, Bridgewater and formerly of Garden Lots, announces her passing on Monday, March 8, 2021 at South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater.

Born in Bridgewater in 1927, she was a daughter of the late Harris and Elva (Brown) Feener.

In her earlier years, Mary attended the Lunenburg Academy and after she completed her education, she met and married her sweetheart. They had two children, a son and a daughter. They enjoyed seventy years together.

Her working career started at High Liner Fish Plant in the lunch room. This started many years of culinary creations. After she left High Liner, she was employed by the Bluenose Lodge, making many kinds of pies. She also catered at the Lunenburg Legion’s New Year’s Levee for 18 years. Mary loved creating and decorating all types of cakes for local celebrations. Her creative streak did not end there; she took up knitting, crocheting, smocking, quilting and ceramics.

Mary was a member of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Lunenburg, member of the Auxiliary of Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital and an Auxiliary member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch # 23, Lunenburg.

Mary is survived by a daughter, Sharon (Ronald) Thurlow, Lunenburg; grandchildren, Jeffrey Thurlow, Brian Thurlow, both of Lunenburg; Michelle (Chris) England; Jonathan Magwood and four great-grandchildren, Reiken, Jedrik, Bexton and Hailey and a step-sister, Patsy.

She was predeceased by her husband, Ivan, son, Bruce and brothers, Walter and Roy.

Funeral Arrangements are under the direction of the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213, Hwy. # 3, Lunenburg. A private immediate family only graveside service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
