Obituary for Gordon Edgar March

It is with great sadness that the family of Gordon Edgar March, 88, of Lunenburg announces his passing on Tuesday, March 16, 2021 at the Mahone Nursing Home, Mahone Bay.

Born in Random Island, Trinity Bay, Nfld, he was the son of the late William and Amelia (Blake) March.

Gordon went to sea at an early age and left Newfoundland to come to Lunenburg in 1953 where he worked at the Lunenburg Foundry and Engineering, with Dana L. Sweeny and then spent 20 years with Department of Fisheries.

He was a member of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, a member of the Merchant Marines, and the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 23, Lunenburg.

Gordon is survived by his wife, Dorothy, son, David (Judith) March, Back Centre, daughter, Janet March, Dean’s Corner and grandchildren, Blake, Holly, Cody and Ashley, great-grandchildren, Emma, Mason and Mekaila and a sister, Valda Rhodes, Florida.

Besides his parents, Gordon was predeceased by his step-mother, Queen March; son, Norman, and a brother, Vincent.

Funeral Arrangements are under the direction of the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Hwy. 3, Lunenburg, where a funeral service to celebrate Gordon’s life for family and close friends will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Tom Summers, officiating. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Lunenburg.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church or to any other charity.
