Obituary for Nancy Louise Haughn

It is with great sadness that the family of Nancy Louise Haughn, of Lunenburg announces her peaceful passing on Friday, July 30, 2021 at the South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater.


Born in Lunenburg, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Ruth (Wilcox) Haughn.


Nancy started her working career at the Old Halifax Infirmary and then worked at Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital from 1970 to 1997.


As many will remember Nancy’s main interest was in Golden Retrievers which she showed and had as therapy dogs. She was a member of the South Shore Kennel club for 34 years, and involved in the council of the Nova Scotia Kennel Club and 13 years in the Therapy Dog Program. She was best friends with Ray and Gloria Fielding who shared her love and involvement with dogs and with whom she explored Nova Scotia. As well as her love of dogs Nancy was a big curling fan.


Active within her community of Lunenburg she was a member of the South Shore Genealogical Society, Lunenburg Academy Foundation, and 16 years on the Board of Harbour View Haven.


No matter where she lived, she considered herself a proud Lunenburger.


Nancy is survived by her brother, Peter (Pam), Heckman’s Island; nieces and nephews, Brad, Lower Sackville; Heather (Tyrel ), Chelsea; Jennifer (Adam), Lunenburg; Thomas , Heckman’s Island; several grand nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents.

Funeral Arrangements are under the direction of the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Hwy. # 3, Lunenburg. A graveside service to celebrate Nancy’s life will be held at Hillcrest Cemetery, Lunenburg on Wednesday, August 4, 2021 at 11:00. Rev. Tom Summers, officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Lunenburg Academy Foundation or South Shore Genealogical Society.
