Obituary for Frederick William Oliver

Frederick William  Oliver
Frederick William Edward Oliver, 86, of Lunenburg, passed away on Tuesday, June 15, 2010 at South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater.

Born in Bridgewater, he was a son of the late Frederick and Helen (Montgomery) Oliver.

Fred is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, the former Hazel Clements; sons, Andy (Linda Mosher) , Bridgetown; Mark (Margo) Montague, P.E.I.; daughters, Vicki (Peter) Freeman, Mahone Bay; Jill (Robert) Lloyd, Quispamsis, N.B.; 8 grandchildren, Christopher, Trevor, and Aaron Lloyd; Matthew and Erin Ringling: Dustin, Morgan and Colson Oliver; great-grandchildren, Liam, Madison and Lochlan Oliver; Rose Hubert-Lloyd and Jordyn Lloyd.

Fred is the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Fred was a gregarious individual who enjoyed life and people. Over the years he was an avid sports enthusiast and enjoyed wintering in Florida and playing tennis.

Fred served overseas with the Royal Canadian Air Force in the Moose Squadron and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #23 Lunenburg. He enjoyed his annual visits to local schools educating the youth of the importance of Remembrance Day. A faithful member of St. John’s Anglican Church, Lunenburg, he lived his faith in the community helping others with Meals on Wheels, the VON, and visiting the Veteran’s Wing of the Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital. An active member of the PC party he served as Campaign Manager for Lloyd Crouse through several elections.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Hwy #3, Lunenburg, where a Legion service will be held Thursday at 6:45 p.m. followed by visitation from 7-9 p.m. A service to celebrate Fred’s life will be held on Friday at 2:00 p.m. from St. John’s Anglican Church, Lunenburg, Rev. Michael Mitchell officiating.

Flowers from the immediate family only. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to
the M.S. Society of Canada or a charity of your choice.
