Obituary for Mary Edna Creaser (Romkey)

It is with great sadness we announce Mary Edna Creaser, age 88, of Lunenburg and formerly of Lower La Have, has passed away at Harbour View Haven nursing home in Lunenburg, NS, on Tuesday, March 8, 2022.

She was born to Florence "Flossie" Hirtle (Romkey) and John Romkey of Lower LaHave.

Our mom was a wonderful wife and mother. She loved her family and loved to cook large tasty family meals, and delicious baked goods. She loved the holidays and spent extra time and care to give us wonderful Christmas and Easter holidays, decorating colorful eggs with us. She was a very caring generous person to many neighbours especially the elderly in need. She loved all her cats she had for many years as well. She was an avid seamstress when we were growing up as kids sewing our clothes. Mom was a trained stenographer from the Maritime Business Academy in Halifax and worked for 2 years in the Lunenburg Town Office and then quit to marry our father and work at Gladees Canteen with her mother, Flossie and Aunt Gladee, and later started her family. Mom worked in and owned Gladees Canteen in Kingsburg, working from the 1950's to early 1990's. Gladees Canteen was an iconic family business serving seafood chowder, fresh fish and chips, scallops and cream pies and many other tasty meals. She took her restaurant business role very seriously all those years as she did her family commitments. She will be missed dearly by all of us.

She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Eric Creaser; son Kevin (Suzanne) Creaser, Lower Rose Bay; daughter Wendy (Jeff) Szabo, Hammonds Plains; granddaughters Jennifer and Laura Szabo, Hammonds Plains.

Funeral arrangements entrusted to the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Hwy #3, Lunenburg and from where a memorial visitation will be held on Friday, March 11, 2022, from 2-4 p.m. A graveside service will be held on Sunday, August 14, 2022 at 1:30 p.m. in Shepherd’s Hill Cemetery, Riverport.

Donations in Mary’s memory can be made to Harbour View Haven Nursing Home in Lunenburg.

A special thanks to the most amazing staff on Back Harbour Square in Harbour View Haven Nursing home for the best care she received since 2016. The people there were family to mom and us and we will never forget the love and care she received. All of you are very special to us too many to mention.
