Obituary for Geraldine Grace Levaughn Tanner

An Earth Angel has left to reside in Heaven.

It is with great sadness that the family of Geraldine Grace Levaughn Tanner, 92, of Lunenburg announces her passing on Thursday, August 18, 2022 at South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater.

Geraldine was born in Blue Rocks, on March 26, 1930, the daughter of Ronald & Melrose (Hynick) Miller.

In her younger years, she attended St. Barnabas Anglican Church where she taught Jr. Sunday School and sang in the Jr. Choir. Upon meeting her husband, Solomon, who was a member of the United Church, they were married in St. Paul’s United Church, Blue Rocks, where she was a Sunday School teacher for many years.

She was a member of the Gormley Unit and Chancel Circle. She had a passion for volunteering and worked with many local organization in this capacity. She was a former member of the Canadian Girl Guide Association, and the C.G.I.T Girls in training. She was a member of the Women’s Institute, and the Alexander Rebekah Lodge #22, Lunenburg, receiving the Degree of Chirality. She was also associated with the Meals on Wheels program, coordinating it for over 20 years. She was chosen as the Provincial Volunteer of the Year in 2006, a recognition of which she was very proud.

Geraldine was employed at Himmelman’s Jewellers for several years during which time she received a diploma as a graduate of the Canadian Jewellers Association.

She enjoyed baking, handcrafts, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved providing them with sweet treats and taking them shopping.

Geraldine was predeceased by her husband, Soloman; sons, Wayne and Brian; brothers, Clayton in infancy, and Kermith and Boyce Miller, and great-granddaughter, Miranda Dares.

She leaves to mourn her granddaughters, Dien (Charles) Jackson, Nicole (Danny) Godbout, Angela (Daniel Evans) Tanner; great-grandchildren, Brandyn & Mackenzie Dares, Thomas & Alicia Jackson, Sophia, Lucas & Walter Evans; and daughter-in-law, Gladys Tanner, as well as several nieces.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Hwy. #3, Lunenburg, and from where a memorial service to celebrate Geraldine’s life will be held Thursday, August 25, 2:00 p.m., Rev. Daniel MacDonald officiating. Interment to follow the service in Hillcrest Cemetery, Lunenburg.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Meals on Wheels, The Dr. Arthur H. Patterson Restorative Centre, or to a charity of choice.
