On his 71st birthday, Franklyn Strum of Blockhouse passed away peacefully at South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater after a short battle with cancer.
Born in Cornwall, Frankie was the eldest son of the late Reginald and Lillian Strum.
Frankie spent most of his career in the scalloping industry as a Mate with Scotia Trawlers and Clearwater. He then finished his fishing days with Northern Harvest. He was happiest in the woods cutting hardwood and growing Christmas trees. Frankie enjoyed his vegetable garden, making hay, and daily truck drives with his dog Shadow.
He is survived by his wife, Karen; daughters, Michelle and Melinda, grandson, Holden MacLennan; sisters, Fran Rafuse, Barbara (Gary) Adams, Uda Robar, Nancy (Ted) Sologuk; brother, Walter (Eileen) Strum; brothers-in-law, John (Marie) and Jim Wentzell; niece and nephews.
Besides his parents, Frankie was predeceased by brother-in-laws Bobby Wentzell and Reid Risser; and his very special uncle, Harold Strum.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Hwy. #3, Lunenburg.
A small gathering will be held with family and close friends at the family home on Thursday, Oct. 27, 2022 from 4 to 6 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, if those desire memorial donations may be made to The VON, Lunenburg County or to the Fishermen’s Memorial Monument, Lunenburg.
