Obituary for Capt. Paul Allen

It is with profound sadness that the family of Capt. Paul Allen, 87, of Lunenburg, announce his passing on Thursday, October 27, 2022 at South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater.

Born in Yarmouth, he was a son of the late William and Edith (Siscoe) Allen.

Paul moved to Garden Lots with his parents when he was a young child and grew up spending most of his time around Lunenburg where he met his wife, Charlotte. His career started with Power Brothers as a plumber, but he soon jumped head first into the highly productive fishing industry in Lunenburg, getting hired as a deckhand on a scallop fishing boat he then quickly he worked his way up to captain. Paul was very industrious and he then raised the capital to buy his own scallop dragger, the “Charlotte and Ricky”. He was a man of many talents and between his trips to sea he built a home and farmstead for him and his wife in Upper First Peninsula and he was also involved in the early days of Atlantic Electronics. After a successful career fishing, he sold his boat and became involved in a family venture to purchase and run the Wheelhouse Motel (formerly the Bellroy), which was run for many years and sold in 2015, when he finally retired at the age of 79.

Paul loved old classic country music, and he also used to sing in the church choir. He loved boating, both for work and for pleasure, he also loved farming, hunting, curling and golfing. He loved get togethers with family and friends, cards games with his buddies and a good strong drink of whisky.
Paul will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

Paul is survived by his grandchildren, Chad (Krystyn), Stephen (Kelly), great-grandchildren, Ethan, Xavier, Emma and Ava; sister; Ann Pelly, Lunenburg; brothers, Jackie (Barbara), Garden Lots, and Eric (Marilyn), New Minas, and several nephews and nieces.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Charlotte; son Ricky, sister, Jean; companion, Marilyn Delaquis.
