Condolence: In the mid-1960s, I had the very great fortune to take a course from Dr. Beck. He was a magnificent teacher, someone who could make even the study of the distribution of Parliamentary constituencies profoundly exciting. He was also an exceptionally kind, approachable professor. I have never forgotten him and I pass on my condolences to his family and friends who must miss this gentle man greatly.

Condolence: I was deeply saddened to hear that Dr. Beck passed away last week. I had the privelege of taking some of his courses during my undergraduate years at Dal. His thorough knowledge of Canadian politics sparked my interest in this discipline. I have always appreciated his continued personal support and encouragement. I wouldn't have completed my degree without his help. RIP Dr. Beck you will be sorrily missed.

Condolence: It was with great sadness that I learned today that J. Murray Beck had passed on last week. I took a course he taught on Canadian Politics while I was studying for my B.A. at Dalhousie University in 1976-7. He was a very good professor who spoke with great authority on this matter, and who was very helpful with my studies. I will certainly miss him.

Condolence: My heartfelt sympathy for the loss of a lovely man. Murray was my dad Ken Heard's close friend for many years together in the Political Science department at Dalhousie and after their retirement. It is good to think of them reunited in Heaven, as Dad passed away in May. Everyone who knew Murray loved him.

Condolence: Dr Beck was still around Dalhousie when I completed my undergraduate studies in Political Science there in the early 1980s. He was a pleasant man with a formidable intellect. While I was never a student of his, we had various interesting conversations over those years, at assorted Departmental fuctions. He was one of that early generation of ground-breaking students of Canadian political science, and he will be missed. His contribution to our understanding of politics in Canada will endure.

Condolence: I had the privilege of being one of Dr. Beck's students at Dalhousie. Although he had many students, he made time for each and every one. I enjoyed his humour and still value his guidance which was always insightful and to the point. Throughout his long career, Dr. Beck's teaching aided many students on their way.
