Obituary for Thomas George Osbourne

Thomas George Osbourne
It is with great sadness that the family of Thomas George Osbourne, 68, of Lunenburg announce his passing on Tuesday, August 11, 2009 at the Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg.

Born in English Harbour West, Newfoundland, he was the oldest son of Arch and Velma (Fizzard) Osbourne.

A proud “true” Newfoundlander, Tom went to sea at the age of 13, fishing on scallop draggers, lobstering and offshore fishing. He moved to Halifax where he worked for many years as an engineer for the Province of Nova Scotia, in boiler room of the Provincial Building.

In later years he enjoyed making wooden crafts with his beloved Pearl. Tom had a big heart and his door was always open to family and friends. If love could be stored in a bank, Tom would have been a millionaire several times over. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him.

Tom is survived by his wife, the former Pearl Bishop, daughters, Annette (Randall), Romkey, Lunenburg, Janice Garrett, Halifax, Tammy (Kevin) Juteau, Digby; son William Garrett (Valerie Pringle) Halifax; sisters, Glenda (David) Williams, Unie (Walter) Skinner, both of NF; Amy (Ben) Banfield, First South, Ann (Lester) Feener, Bridgewater, Joan (Bill) Poole, Lunenburg, Ethel (Gordon) Tibbo, Northwest, Esther (Raymond) Hunt, Riverport; brothers, Aubrey (Marie) Osbourne, Arch (Geraldine) Osbourne, both of NF, Charles (Debbie) Osbourne, Halifax, Will (Cathy) Osbourne, First South, and John (Shelly) Osbourne, Grimm Rd., grandchildren, Jonathan, Daniel, Brandon, Lisa, Toni and Brittany, great grandchildren, Kyler, Nathan and Anthony and many nieces and nephews. He will be deeply missed by his faithful and best friend, Doug Nodding, Bridgewater.

Tom was predeceased by his sister Elizabeth and a brother Walter.

A service to celebrate Tom’s life will be held Friday at 2:00 p.m. at the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Hwy # 3, Lunenburg, Rev. Michael Mitchell, officiating. Interment will be at a later date.

No flowers by request, memorial donations in Tom’s memory may be made to SHAID Tree Animal Shelter.
